
Prayer Profile
Bosnia-Hercegovina gained dominance in the world news in the early 1990s when members of a religiously diverse society lost their tolerance toward each other. The country was pounded by a three-way war, pitting Muslim Slavs, Orthodox Serbs and Catholic Croats against one another. The result: 100,000 dead, unknown number wounded, a crumbled infrastructure and over 2 million refugees and displaced people. Even today many cannot return to their homes because another ethnic group might live there.
The peoples of Bosnia-Hercegovina identify with a religion for ethnic reasons and are not deeply committed to the tenets of that religion. Most of them are cultural rather than religious Muslims. They do not practice religious laws, few people go to the mosques, most never read the Qur’an.
The country has been one of the least-evangelized European countries, with only 1,000 believers among approximately 4 million people.
Redemptive Purpose: The believers in Bosnia feel that Isaiah 61 is a key purpose for them. To really pray for them, look at the whole passage. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn...
Key Scripture to Pray: Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. - Ephesians 3:20,21
Going Before the Father: Separation and division of peoples has been an issue in Bosnia-Hercegovina. Pray for the churches (without lines of denomination) to come together in greater unity, for as we "love one another, the whole world will know we are his disciples."
Forgiveness is one of the keys to the Kingdom of God. He asks that His people should forgive 7 times 70 (or always forgiving). Pray for a greater spirit of repentance and forgiveness to be flowing from His people.
Pray that the church in Bosnia-Hercegovina will not look back at the past but forward to the future to take hold of fulfilling their commission and mission for their country.
