Prayer Profile:

Cyprus is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. The Republic of Cyprus has one of the more advanced economies in the region.

In 1974, following 11 years of intercommunal violence and an attempted coup d’état by Greek Cypriot nationalists, Turkey invaded and occupied the northern portion of the island. The Turkish invasion led to the displacement of thousands of Cypriots and the establishment of a separate Turkish Cypriot political entity in the north. The Republic of Cyprus is de facto partitioned into two main parts, the area under the effective control of the Republic of Cyprus, comprising about 2/3 of the island’s area and the Turkish-occupied area in the north calling itself the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, covering about 1/3 of the island’s area and recognised only by Turkey.

Redemptive Purpose: Without a man like Barnabas, Paul the Apostle maybe would never have met the other disciples in Jerusalem. Cyprus needs a person like Barnabas to bring encouragement to this divided land. Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means Son of Encouragement)...   - Acts 4:35-37

Key Scripture to Pray: "Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry; the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth." - Psalm 34:14-16

Going Before the Father: Pray for the people of Cyprus not to have apathy toward the gospel. Praise God for the growth in the evangelical church, and may that become a sending base to the nations. 

Because Cyprus is a popular tourist destination with great beaches (attracting over 2.4 million tourists per year), it is also a primary destination country for a large number of women trafficked from Eastern and Central Europe, the Philippines, and other countries for the purpose of sexual exploitation. These women are being treated as possessions and can be thrown away like trash. Pray that the women caught up in the sex trade would find Christians who would reach out to them and care for their many needs.
