Prayer Profile:
The ancient Greek historian Herodotus called Egypt “the gift of the Nile”—one of the most stunning civilizations of the ancient world. Significant in Biblical and secular history, Egypt is a major player in the Middle East. Home to the largest Christian community in the region with more evangelical believers than all the other Arab countries combined, the Church traces its origin to the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:10).
Egypt is also the intellectual center for Islam and trains hundreds of Muslim missionaries every year for the Muslim brotherhood and Islamic Jihad.
For the Arab world, Egypt is the “Hollywood” for films and TV programs. This allows Egypt to influence in the whole of the Arab world.
In Egypt, the Church has survived for 2,000 years, despite times of severe persecution, and now there is a growing prayer movement with prayer conferences that attract thousands of local believers.
Redemptive Purpose: Throughout Scriptures, Egypt was a place where God sent his people. Abram went there because of a famine, Joseph saved his own people and many others while working in Egypt, and Jesus was sent there to escape from the killing spree of Herod. May Egypt be a place where God works to bring His salvation to many.
Key Scripture to Pray: In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the heart of Egypt, and a monument to the LORD at its border. It will be a sign and witness to the LORD Almighty in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the LORD because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and he will rescue them. So the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the LORD. - Isaiah 19:19-21
Going Before the Father: Pray that Egypt will be a “sign and witness to the LORD Almighty,” that many Egyptians will “cry out to the LORD” and that the “LORD will make himself known” to them.
Recently, the Church in Egypt has started to grow more in unity. This is very positive. Pray that unity would continue to develop among this people.
God is doing something among the Egyptian Christian children. They have been meeting together to pray. May God continue to bring prayer and praise from the lips of the children and allow the little ones to come unto Him.
Keep “asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you [Egyptians] the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.”
