Prayer Profile:
Jordan has a very old and rich history. Many of the Biblical stories took place in what is today’s Jordan. Edomites, Moabites and Ammonites lived here in Old Testament times. Moses saw the Promised Land from a mountain believed to be in present-day Jordan.
The population of Jordan has grown to 6.6 million. The rapid population growth is a strain on the already struggling economy. Unemployment is officially 22%, and a quarter of families live in poverty. More then half of all Jordanians are from Palestinian backgrounds. In the past, Jordan included the West Bank of the Jordan River and East Jerusalem in its territory, but these areas have been occupied by Israel since 1967.
There does not seem to be much spiritual hunger. Nonetheless perhaps 200 believers from Muslim backgrounds live in Jordan, many of them isolated and not integrated into fellowships.
Redemptive Purpose: About 2.75% of the population are Christians, mostly Catholics and Orthodox. These Christians are the remnant of the ancient church that never yielded to Islam. 2 Kings 19:4 encourages us to pray for the “remnant that still survives.” For almost 1500 years, the Church here has survived in the face of great persecution.

Key Scripture to Pray: Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp. Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. Here he stayed and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a miraculous sign, all that John said about this man was true.” - John 10:39-41
Going Before the Father: Pray that there would be a growing hunger and thirst in Jordan to know all the true things about Jesus and that many in Jordan would call on His name.
Jordan is a key player in Middle East politics–its relationship with Israel and the emerging Palestinian state continue to be important. Pray for the peace of Jordan in this critical role.
Evangelicals, Catholics and Orthodox are all part of the remnant of the ancient Church in Jordan. Pray for this “remnant that still survives,” for them to grow deeper in the Lord, for them to lead the church and train the next generation of believers.
