Prayer Profile:
Lebanon has been independent since 1943, and almost 4 million people live there. About 60% of the schools in Lebanon use French as their basic language of education, about 20% use English, while 20% use both French and English. Arabic language and literature are taught in all schools, and the Arabic language is used in some schools for philosophy, history and sociology material. Lebanon encompasses a great mix of cultures and ethnic groups.
There is no state religion in Lebanon. However, Lebanon officially recognizes 18 religious groups of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Around one-third are Christian and two-thirds are Muslim. The largest religious groups are: Shia, Sunni, Maronite, Greek-Orthodox, Greek-Catholic, Druze, and Armenian (Orthodox as well as Catholic).
Issues: The group Hezbollah is based in Lebanon. Hezbollah means “party of God.” It is a defacto state-within-a-state. Hezbollah gains support among many Lebanese Shiites by providing social services which operates schools, hospitals, and agricultural services for thousands of Lebanese Shiites, and plays a significant force in Lebanese politics. Many Lebanese, however, are suspicious of their true intentions.

Going Before the Father: The concept of a bride coming to the Bridegroom is a powerful calling in scripture. “This is a profound mystery–but I am talking about Christ and the church.” May the bride of Christ in Lebanon be called deeper into the presence of the Lord Jesus.
The constitution provides for freedom of religion and the freedom to practice all religious rites provided that the public order is not disturbed. Thank God that Lebanon is still the only land in the Middle East where people are free to decide to change their religion. Pray that this incredible freedom would be maintained.
Lebanon has always seemed to be a battle zone, and this continues today. May God use the turmoil to draw people into His family.
