Prayer Profile:
Throughout its history, Malta’s location in the Mediterranean Sea has given it a strategic importance. A sequence of powers including the Phoenicians, Romans, Fatimids, Sicilians, Knights of St. John, French and British have all ruled the islands. In 1964, Malta gained its independence from the United Kingdom.
Malta has a long legacy of Roman Catholicism (98% of the population), which continues to be the official religion. According to Acts, St. Paul was shipwrecked on the island and ministered there.
In the last few years, Maltese naval vessels have rescued hundreds of stranded vessels loaded with African refugees fleeing the continent. Their stories of desperation are heartrending. Malta is in the direct path as they try to flee to Europe desiring a better life. The number who don’t make it will never be known. This is an unsolvable problem for Malta, with not enough accommodation to house all those who are rescued.
Redemptive Purpose: Malta is a lighthouse in the middle of the Mediterranean. The Scripture in Matthew 5:15-16 helps us understand God’s heart. ”Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
Key Scripture to Pray: I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. - Ephesians 3:16-19
Going Before the Father: With Malta being 98% Roman Catholic, evangelism to the population is difficult in the midst of such traditional religious culture. Pray for the fullness of the above Ephesians 3 scriptures to be on the Catholic Church in Malta.
The Maltese government is physically rescuing Africans off of boats. Pray that this also brings a spiritual blessing on these people and that they would be brought into the Kingdom.
Malta is strategically located for reaching Muslims in North Africa. There is a growing Muslim presence, but there is very little evangelism directed toward the Muslims. Pray that Malta would be a light into North Africa and that as North Africans visit, the Gospel will be shared with them.

For 2 weeks we will be running 24/7 prayer and worship in a house of prayer within the country.
