Prayer Profile:
Syria lays claim to the oldest continuously occupied city, Damascus. The country can be divided geographically into four main areas: the fertile plain in the northeast, the plateau, coastal and mountain areas in the west, and the central plains, desert and steppe region in the central and southeastern areas. The Euphrates flows from Turkey in the north, through Syria, down to Iraq in the southeast.
With a population of 18.4 million, it has one of the world’s fastest population growth rates (2.5%). Almost half of all Syrians are under the age of fifteen. Syrians are well educated by Middle Eastern standards, and great strides have been made in reducing illiteracy, especially in urban areas and among females. Over 50 percent of the population live in cities, and urban migration has been rapid in recent years.
Redemptive Purpose: As Paul was going to Damascus, Jesus appeared to him. From that visit, the Gospel took a giant step forward for the Gentiles. May God again do a mighty work in Syria and for his name in the Muslim world.

Key Scripture to Pray: News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them. Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him. - Matthew 4:24-25
Going Before the Father: Although Christians are tolerated in Syria and can meet together, any attempts to witness to Muslims is seen as a threat to the government. Very few of the indigenous Christians reach out to their Muslim neighbors. Pray that the Christians from many different backgrounds would make the Lord known.
Pray that Muslims in Syria will gain a true understanding of what it means to be a Christian, and have the opportunity to meet Jesus.
Syria has been involved in wars and confrontations with surrounding states for over 50 years. Pray that there would be greater political freedom in Syria. Pray that Syria will play its part and do all that leads to peace in the Middle East.
